The Quebec company that combines the know-how of the produce growing world and the latest technology in vertical agriculture is testing a new product
Brossard, January 27, 2022 – Winter Farm is pleased to announce that it is diversifying its production with Champignon d’hiver mushrooms, now being stocked on the shelves of twelve IGA supermarkets in the West end of Montreal and Vaudreuil regions. Grown locally and without any chemical pesticides, Champignon d’hiver mushrooms are a fresh high-end variety of grey oyster mushrooms. The company is starting a market testing period that will run until next fall and will help validate demand for the product.
Since 2018, Winter Farm has been developing a comprehensive high-volume vertical indoor farming solution. “Our Fraise d’hiver strawberries are a big hit with consumers, and since October, the production yield from our first industrial unit has been growing. With Winter Farm’s technology and innovations, we have everything we need to locally produce a wide variety of foods during the off season”, said Alain Brisebois, President and Chief Executive Officer of Winter Farm. “Champignons d’hiver mushrooms diversify our offering and will enable us to explore more leads towards our food autonomy.”
To ensure production, Winter Farm has teamed up with Amelium Farms, a company based in Saint-Lazare that specializes in growing several varieties of mushrooms. “I’m very enthusiastic about teaming up with Winter Farm for the market testing phase. We both share a strong desire to offer quality products that are tasty and pesticide free, all year long.” – Marc Brettschneider, President and founder of Amelium Farms.
